I have lived much of my life on the urban- bushland fringe, in Hobart, Sydney and currently, Wollongong.
I discovered bush is where I like to be, a place for many things.
Photography is about what is real, or may have been…
It became for me a means of exploration of these particular places, often small in area, but with contemplation, increasingly rich.
I went back to Bonnet Hill in 2007, for the first time in eight years and for the first time in twenty- five, with a camera. It was like seeing old friends.
Bush is what most of us rush through to get somewhere else. At Bonnet Hill I often set out for the somewhere else but rarely arrived, waylaid by discoveries.
These newest photographs continue a dialogue begun thirty-six years ago, different in many respects, but entirely consistent in others.
Photography continues to be about finding a sense of place, a place for connection.
